Friday 5: Summer Retrospective

Well, here we are in the middle of summer already!

1. What did you love about summers when you were growing up?
2. Did you hate anything? What?
3. What "summer place" would you most like to visit from those years? Why?
4. What is your best memory of this summer so far?
5. Name 3 things you still hope to do before this summer is over.

If we're going to keep posting these on Saturday, maybe we need to start calling this feature: Saturday Six.

1. Long aimless days spent outside, playing games after dark with the neighbors, going to Mooney's for ice cream.
2. Swimming lessons! Summer camp!
3. The ditch in front of the brick house on Sheridan where we played 'Wintry Day'.
4. No fair - I can't pick just one! I'll name 3: the night I took a very long walk after dark all by myself: it was so peaceful and summery; the night the boys and I watched the June Bug Days fireworks from our deck; all the fun Dan and I have had working in the yard together.
5. Canoe for three or four days in the Boundary Waters, go to the beach at Eau Galle, attend the county fair.

1. Summer camp, playing hide-n-seek out after dark with the neighbors, long, lazy days of reading and doing nothing much, fireflies, tomatoes, riding bikes -- Mooney's, of course!
2. Coming home from the library with lots of books, but it was too hot and sunny in the car to read, I'd feel carsick. Helping in the garden. Being too hot to sleep at night.
3. Maybe camp.
4. Working in my garden, cooking out on the 4th.
5. Re-plan/re-plant my flower gardens, Danika and Savva's wedding next weekend, celebrate Daryl's 40th b-day by going to hear the Gipsy Kings at Ravinia, finish the quilt, get out my bike and take a long ride, celebrate out 32ne anniversary. I guess that's more than 3!

1. I loved the smell of freshly-mown grass, drippy fruit confections, sandals, and most especially going to the Reservoir (beach.)

2. Bug, heat and (worst of all) humidity.

3. Hmmm...maybe the old house. We seemed to get the full smiling glory of summer on top of that little knoll in Spring Valley.

4. 1. Beach. 2. Read on the beach. 3. Relax under a shade tree and picnic.

(Where's 5?)

Thanks, Mose, for bringing my attention to the numbering error.

Addendum: I also loved the background noise of Ernie Harwell announcing the Tigers' games!

1 - Sitting by Steven's Creek and reading "Swallows and Amazons"
2 - Being left in charge of younger siblings
3 - My back yard. That was the "park" for the whole neighborhood and the place for all the neighborhood holiday parties. It still is the hub of the neighborhood even though the house has new (very delightful) owners!
4 - My son's adopted boy asking me to be his grandmother
5 - Buy a house, spend a week in silence, finish Baby Surprise Jacket for my baby granddaughter!
What a delightful blog this is!
